Liquids in Carry-On Baggage
What quantities of which liquids may be carried on board?
The rule is: containers holding liquids may not have a capacity larger than 100 ml. All such containers must be stored inside a transparent, reclosable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of one liter, for example an ordinary freezer bag with ziplock. The bag may contain any number of containers, but it must be possible to completely close it. Each person may carry one such bag on board. We recommend reducing your carry-on baggage to the bare essentials and arriving at the airport with plenty of time to spare.
What happens if I require medications or special food in liquid form?
Exceptions are made for medications and special food (e.g., baby or dietary food) required during the trip. These articles may also be carried outside the plastic bag, but must be separately presented when passing the security check. In case of doubt, the security staff may request you to prove your need for the products.
How can I get ready for the checks at the airport?
The best thing you can do is put all liquids in your checked
bags and only carry the most essential items on board with you. Liquid
containers in your carry-on bags may not be larger than 100 ml and have
to be stored inside a transparent, reclosable plastic bag with a maximum
capacity of one liter (Which quantities of which liquids
may be carried on board?) The bag may hold any number of containers,
but it must be possible to completely close it.
Should I arrive at the airport earlier than usual?
All airport and security staff naturally do their best to make it as convenient and pleasant as possible for you to complete your check-in and pass the checks. Please ask your airline or travel agent how much time you should plan for between arriving at the airport and your departure.

Questions on the Plastic Bag
What kinds of plastic bags are allowed?
You may use any plastic bag (for instance, a freezer bag), provided that it is transparent, reclosable (for instance, using a ziplock), and does not have a capacity larger than one liter. The bag must include an integrated closure mechanism, which can be a ziplock, velcro, snap or draw-cord closure. Separate wire ties, clips, adhesive tape, etc. are not allowed.
Why does the plastic bag have to be reclosable?
The security staff at Frankfurt Airport is required to monitor the contents of the bags. It must therefore be possible to open and reclose them.
What happens if I arrive at the airport without a plastic bag?
Suitable bags may be purchased in all shops selling books and periodicals at the airport. Frankfurt Airport is also providing bags during the introductory phase (tentatively until January 15 , 2007 ). However, we recommend that you obtain a bag yourself in advance and arrive at the airport with your carry-on baggage ready for boarding.
How is the plastic bag checked?
At the security check, the bag must be presented and x-rayed separately from the rest of your carry-on baggage.
What hasn't changed?
The new requirement only applies to liquids and similar substances in your carry-on baggage. You may take liquids as usual in your checked luggage, as long as you comply with the regulations prohibiting the transport of hazardous goods in aircraft.

Shopping After the Boarding Card Check
Can I still make purchases in Duty Free & Travel Value Shops or other stores at the airport after passing the boarding card check?
Yes, no problem: all merchandise sold in the areas beyond the boarding card check has already been subjected to special security checks. You may still purchase any item there as usual. The sales staff place liquid items in special sealed bags that may not be opened until after you have arrived at your destination. The special seal and the corresponding sales receipt entitle you to take the merchandise through a security check on the day of purchase. You should keep the receipt handy during your entire trip, because you may be requested to show it - and not only at Frankfurt Airport, but at any other airport in the European Union, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland. There is no limit on the number of duty free bags that you may take on board with you. The usual limits on purchased items naturally continue to apply.
Can I still buy duty free articles on board the aircraft?
All items sold on board aircraft of airlines registered in the EU have also passed special security checks. You may still buy this merchandise. The same requirements apply as at EU airports.
What are the requirements for flights to the United States?
In some cases there may be restrictions on importing duty-free purchases. If in doubt, please ask the sales personnel in our Duty Free & Travel Value Shops.
Which flights are affected by the new rules?
The new regulations affect all flights originating or stopping at an airport in the European Union, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland.
hat happens if I enter the EU from a non-EU airport or with a non-EU airline, or change planes at an EU airport?
In these cases, the EU regulations apply in full. Please refer to the section on liquids and quantities allowed in carry-on bags.
In which countries do the new regulations apply?
Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom
